Data & Information Insights Program: Advancing insights through trusted data.

The DII Program aims to advance UNE insights through trusted data. This whole of university program started in late 2022 and is planned to deliver significant uplifts to UNE’s data capabilities, tools and practices over the next 5 years over 3 tranches.

In our first tranche (2023-2024) is focused on building new foundational capabilities, upgrading reporting dashboards and transformations to improve the maturity of our data management practices and leverage automation and modern technologies to make smarter, more timely business decisions.

This vision is achieved through a number of substantial uplift activities and sub-projects that focus on innovating and improving services and tools across the full data lifecycle from collection and curation to advanced analytics and presentation of new and trusted insights that lead directly to better decisions and outcomes for staff and students.

Our key projects for 2023 are:

  • Learning Analytics Project (myLearn)
  • Enhanced Insights Project
  • Modern Data Platform Project
  • Data Governance Project

By aligning these data projects and related data initiatives across UNE into a single, cohesive and strategic program of work, the DII program is positioned to deliver holistic benefits to UNE.

What's next?

In the coming weeks, the project is capturing a holistic view of data issues across UNE and finalising documentation about our current state, prioritising business needs, planning to achieve quick wins and partnering with specialist suppliers to improve our data management tools and practices.

Data Insights Survey in January 2023

We will be releasing a survey to understand our current state and opportunities for improvement. The survey will be repeated at different times during the program delivery to help us measure our progress and get your feedback.

What's planned in 2023

In Q1/Q2 this year, we will be focusing on building a data insights framework that drives a shared, consistent understanding of our data and analytics which underpins informed decision-support processes and practices of the University.

To be successful, we recognise the need to put UNE stakeholders in the driver’s seat as we move away from traditional data silos to increased integration, greater availability of new insights, and the sharing of common challenges, as we collaborate on opportunities to make significant improvements to how we use data.
