Copying provisions for exams

Any quantity of literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works can be copied or adapted without infringement as part of a question to be answered in an examination, or in an answer to such a question. In this context the exam needs to be part of a unit's formal assessment process, not simply used as a teaching resource or a practice paper.

Note: If an exam is subsequently copied or communicated (for example reproduced in course materials, or emailed to students) as a teaching resource, this needs to be done under the provisions of the Statutory Licence or another copyright exception. The usual restrictions will apply and some changes to the quantity of material used may be necessary. It is also necessary to properly acknowledge the source of the copyright material used.
