“Indonesian academics with a master’s by research and who are currently working at an Indonesian public university had opportunity to explore academic exchange and PhD projects with UNE,” Dr Philip Thomas, coordinator and Senior International Research Coordinator at UNE said.

“UNE has outstanding education offerings in the Higher Degree by Research space, and we conduct innovative research in areas where Indonesia are looking to upskill.

“Our industry-leading PhD Innovation is particularly popular with Indonesian students as it allows them to combine workplace knowledge and process with academic rigour to produce valuable, in-country new knowledge.”

The event attracted wide-spread interest from Indonesian academics with 140 attendees logging in on the day to learn more about UNE’s expertise in Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Farming Technology, Education and Teaching, Law, Business and Management, Health and Medicine, Languages and Social Studies.

The online event also included presentations from DIKTI and UNE to highlight current opportunities such as the Bridging Program, the Scheme for Academic Mobility and Exchange (SAME) and PhD scholarship opportunities through DIKTI at UNE.

Dr Thomas said he was very pleased with the interest showed in UNE’s offerings.

“Our goal is to identify and engage with 10 appropriately qualified prospective Indonesian PhD candidates to further develop their PhD research proposals through the Bridging Program and explored possibilities for joint supervision of prospective Indonesian doctoral students under the future DIKTI/UNE Agreement.

“We also identified opportunities for Indonesian university researchers to visit UNE on exchange to collaborate and create joint publications and research, guest lectures and joint supervision of doctoral students. All in all it was a very productive exchange.”
