Postcards from the Boilerhouse – a design competition

Published 29 March 2018

As UNE prepares to turn its derelict boilerhouse, once used for heating the University, into a regional centre for family education in a setting of industrial chic, it is asking local artists to interpret the building for a competition.

In early 2018, the University of New England (UNE) Boilerhouse building will be undergoing remediation before becoming a community discovery space for children and their families, as well as a funky place to hang out for a good coffee and creative time.

Before it does, the History of the Boilerhouse Project is calling for local artists (of any age and stage) to send us a postcard from the Boilerhouse.  If you’re into steampunk, or the emotional power of industrial ruins, or simply think the Boilerhouse is a cool and atmospheric building, we want to hear from you.

This is your chance to use your artistic skills to capture this iconic building in the last stages before it embarks on a new phase of life.  You decide what and how you’d like to represent this amazing building.  If you choose to base your artwork on a perspective from the inside, you’ll need to check out our photographer, Terry Cooke’s awesome photos on Flickr

Submissions must be the size of a postcard (148 mm x 105 mm) and can be landscape or portrait.  All mediums are encouraged and accepted, and must be the artist’s own, original artwork.

There are six prize categories and $100 is on offer for each prize winner.  Take a walk or drive to the northern area of campus and you’ll find the Boilerhouse building on the corner of Ring Road and Workshop Road.

Be inspired!

Entries will close at 5:00pm on Friday 18 May 2018.  Competition details and a downloadable entry form are available on the UNE Discovery website.
