Psychology student, Karen Stafford, will be awarded a University Medal for her exceptional academic achievement when the University of New England holds its graduation ceremony this Friday.

Karen Stafford juggles family and work commitments in Newcastle while studying through distance education.

She will also be the only graduate to be recognised with a University Medal at the Autumn Graduation ceremonies.

“I am excited and honoured to be awarded a university medal in recognition of my academic achievements, which would not have been possible without the wonderful support I received from family, friends, fellow students and UNE staff,” Ms Stafford said.

Ms Stafford chose UNE because of its strong reputation in providing quality education and effective support for distance education students.

“Because I’m a parent and I am maintaining a career in the health sector, this flexibility was particularly important to me,” Ms Stafford said.

“The academic staff in the School of Behavioural, Cognitive and Social Sciences were also very supportive throughout my studies.”

Ms Stafford completed her Graduate Diploma in Psychology, followed by an Honours qualification in Psychology involving coursework and research.

“I am now undertaking postgraduate studies in psychology in my hometown and feel that my study at UNE gave me a formative foundation for further work in this discipline.”

UNE awards a University Medal to selected Bachelor with Honours graduates in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and excellence.
