The team won gold recently at the Australian University Games defeating Western Sydney University 2-1 in the final.

University of New England Vice-Chancellor Professor Annabelle Duncan commended the team on their consistent high performance and dedication.

“We are very proud of the team’s win. They have worked hard as a team and this resulted in them dominating most of their matches throughout the week long competition in October,” Prof Duncan said.

“UNE is proud to be able to nurture and support sport on a local, regional and national level for our students and the community.”

“This year, The University has hosted a variety of events from the weekly Parkrun to school competitions and then the larger events such as the NSW Country Junior Rugby Championships and the Newcastle Jets pre-season training camp.”

The awards night attracted over 200 guests while guest speaker, 19 year old Australian Rugby 7’s player Tiana Penitani, impressed the audience with her stories and words of wisdom.

Next year promises to be another big year for the team who will be competing for their third gold medal at the Northern University Games being held at the Sunshine Coast. The team will also compete in the 2016 Australian University Games which will be held in Perth.
