Amanda McCamey, Maternity Nurse Unit Manager, graduated with a Masters of Health Management in 2018. Amanda shared her thoughts on studying at UNE with the Alumni office:

1. What was your UNE qualification/s?

Masters of Health Management

2. Online or on-campus study?

Online

3. How did you find UNE lecturers?

Flexible and pleasant. I was surprised at how supportive they were in understanding that you are studying, working and also trying to have a life at the same time. They consistently gave fair, constructive and positive feedback.

4. What was your reason for studying at UNE?

The flexibility to work on your degree in your own time at your own pace.

5.    How has your UNE qualification aided you in your career?

I gained more experience in my career whilst I was working through my degree, because I was working towards it. I managed to land the position of dream job just before I graduated and was lucky enough to gain such invaluable experience such as opening up a ward in a new hospital. This degree helped me sculpt my leadership skills and build a positive culture in my workplace for my team.

6.    In this time of Covid-19, how has the virus impacted your workplace?

Staff, patients and visitors are now temperature screened upon entry to the hospital. It’s been tough for our patients as we’ve had to limit the amount of support people present at their birth and admission to only 1 person. We’ve had to prepare for the potential of positive covid-19 patients presenting to our unit at any time. Through this we’ve devised plans and run drills to help educate our staff. I’m extremely lucky as our team is incredibly adaptable to change since we’ve opened up our new hospital and all work well together to ensure safe outcomes for staff, patients and visitors.

7. Anything else you would like to share?

I want to thank the lecturers for their support with my studies and I really enjoyed travelling up to Armidale for our Graduation Ceremony.
