Emeritus Professor Euan Fleming

Professor Fleming (BCom (Melb), MEc, PhD (UNE)) joined UNE in 1981 and has recently retired from the University (June 2014). He has undertaken major leadership roles during this time, at School/Department, Faculty and University levels, including Professor of Agricultural Economics, Head of the School of Economics and Member of the Executive Committee, Faculty of Economics, Business and Law. Professor Fleming continues to play a major role in the School's and UNE's research and teaching environments, remaining active in both postgraduate and undergraduate curriculum development.

Professor Fleming is a distinguished international scholar, with research publications and activities covering a wide range of issues within the area of agricultural economic development – including issues of agricultural sector policy analysis, efficiency and productivity analysis, farm technology adoption analysis, farming systems and marketing policy. He has played a key role in a successful bid to the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and in the preparation of a submission to the Commonwealth Government White Paper on Agricultural Competitiveness. Professor Fleming's outstanding research has been supported and funded by organisations such as the World Bank, the United Nations and the Economic and social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. He has successfully supervised 23 PhD students, 48 Masters students and many Honours students.

As a respected academic and research leader who has made a significant and longstanding contribution to the academic life of the University, its students and to his discipline area, Council is pleased to award the title of Emeritus Professor to Professor Fleming.
