Emeritus Professor Larry Smith

Professor Larry Smith has been an active academic with a career that has spanned more than 30 years, 10 of which he served as Full Professor and Foundation Director of the Graduate School of Business for Business Research at the UNE School of Business. Throughout his career, he has established a proven track record as being a strong leader, involving himself in notable external committees involving higher education, leadership, and quality assurance. These include serving on the Board of Governors, Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority; Deputy Chair, Australian Institute of Management; Chair, Australia Awards (Endeavour Scholarships); Member of the Prime Minister’s Awards Post-Graduate Panel; Panel of Assessors, Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia Fellowships Panel; Governing Council, New England Girls’ School; Committee Member of the Australian College of Educators (NE Region); Committee Members of the Australian Council for Educational Leadership (NE Region), Member of the DET NSW Non-Self Accrediting Higher Education Providers Registration and Accreditation Panel; Academic Board of the Australian Colleges of Natural Medicine; Visiting Professor of London South Bank University; and Honorary International Expert of the Saudi Ministry of Higher Education.

Professor Smith has dedicated his scholarly career to UNE and continues to assist others in finding their own professional path. He has demonstrated a high level of critical understanding of transitional states by helping to develop inter-institutional partnerships (e.g. Vietnam National University and the Royal University of Bhutan), has supervised more than 25 HDR completions with eight scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016, and received funding for three competitive grants and six from other sources, including two international grants.
