Itinerary - China Study Tour, 4 to 17 November 2018
Students will note that this itinerary is still in planning stages - this is a draft, and a fair outline of the variety of activities our students will be undertaking during the Overseas Study Tour.
Departure Sunday 4 November 2018, from Sydney, to Saturday 17 November.
Day 1: Sunday 4 November 2018
Fly Sydney to Beijing - direct flight. Met at Beijing Airport by our national Chinese guide and UNE Tour manager, Peter Lloyd. Transfer to hotel. Overnight Beijing (Penta Hotel).
Day 2: Monday 5 November
AM travel to vertically integrated food business. See cattle feedlot, and pasture/feed areas. Discuss processes with GM. Lunch at Company restaurant (business visit)/
Late AM early PM travel north to Great Wall of China. Opportunity to walk and explore wall structure.
Late PM travel from Great Wall site to China Agricultural University (educational and cultural visit). Seminar followed by welcome dinner with CAU staff and students. Return to hotel for Overnight Beijing.
Day 3: Tuesday 6 November
AM Travel short distance from hotel to Tiananmen Square - guided tour, then walk to Forbidden Palace for guided tour.
Lunch at Hotel restaurant (World Hotel)
PM Transfer to Australian Embassy. Meeting with Embassy and Austrade staff. Introduction by students to Embassy staff. Presentation and questions - Embassy staff, and Austrade representatives (Professional visit)
Dinner - Peking Duck. Possible invitation to UNE alumnus and Sri Lankan Ambassador to China (subject to confirmation).
Day 4: Wednesday 7 November
Early AM transfer to rail station. Fast train to Zhenzhou (0740-1050)
On arrival Zhengzhou - welcome by staff and students from Henan Agricultural University (Education/professional visit)
Move to university campus. Welcome and lunch.
PM student presentations.
Evening dinner hosted by HAU.
Day 5: Thursday 8 November
Early AM Depart by coach with HAU students- to Louyang- visit White Horse Temple, and Longmen Grottoes (Cultural program).
Visit both locations
Lunch at nearby restaurant.
Early PM return to Zhengzhou (by 1500). Dinner hosted by UNE with HAU staff and students. Overnight Zhangzhou.
Day 6: Friday 9 November
Early fast train to Xian. Arrive late morning.
Travel to Terra Cotta Warriors - introduction and visit the main museum areas - lunch at site (cultural/historic visit).
Late afternoon return to Xian, check into hotel.
Dinner and free time - Moslem Street.
Day 7: Saturday 10 November
AM Bike ride around city wall (cultural)
Late AM - visit local village (Nansuo Village, Hu County) – traditional lunch. Visit farmers’ homes and discussion on regional development.
PM transfer to airport for flight to Shanghai.
On arrival transfer to restaurant for dinner or hotel for dinner. Overnight Shanghai.
Day 8: Sunday 11 November
Cultural visits in Shanghai. Local wet market.
Visit local neighbourhood centre. Possible visit to Local kindergarten.
Lunch with local families in their homes.
PM Yuan gardens and Fake markets, free time. Dinner and overnight Shanghai.
Day 9: Monday 12 November
Business visits and briefings - National Australia Bank/Victorian Government - at NAB offices in business centre of Pudong.
Briefings on business and cultural aspects of doing business in China. Lunch at nearby restaurant.
Travel to New South Wales government trade office - Briefing by director China - Tong Zhang.
PM visit nearby supermarket - featuring Australian products.
Evening Traditional Acrobatic Show. Overnight Shanghai.
Day 10: Tuesday 13 November
AM industry/technology visit- to be arranged by NSW Government.
Flight to Shenzhen
PM Industry/Hi-Tech visit in Shenzhen economic zone.
Dinner and overnight Shenzhen.
Day 11: Wednesday 14 November
AM industry visit/Daniel Chan – Woolmark, on textile industry.
Depart by coach to Hong Kong.
PM Business Visit - Value added chain.
Dinner and overnight HK (possible meeting/dinner with UNE alumni).
Day 12: Thursday 15 November
AM Depart hotel for Macquarie Bank. Presentations and inspection of Asian office. (Extended presentations with question period )
PM Visit Woolmark Global Design Centre, and visit local factory.
Possible late afternoon meeting with Austrade Representative and /or UNE alumni. Possible presentation and educational session with Richard Watson, Ethos Pty Ltd. (Business set up and development in China, and Asia)
Evening Harbour Cruise.
Overnight Hong Kong.
Day 13: Friday 16 November
Early AM program review.
Check out of Hotel, load bags on coach.
Travel to Cable car station for Lantau Island.
Free time to explore island and its temples.
Return to Cable car station, for short transfer to Hong Kong Airport.
Evening flight to Sydney. (2115- Qantas)
Day 14: Saturday 17 November
AM (0955) Arrival Sydney.
