Eligibility and Registration of Interest

Eligibility is assessed in two stages. The first requires meeting the eligibility criteria below. Then prospective teams who meet the criteria must register their interest to participate through the registration page.

  1. All participants must be at least 18 years of age
  2. Non-students such as alumni, staff and local residents can participate but must work in a team with currently enrolled students who will present the plan to the judges
  3. Teams may comprise a minimum of one and a maximum of four students
  4. All team members must register and if invited to participate must remain with the team until the competition ends
  5. Teams must nominate a leader to whom all correspondence will be sent
  6. The business idea must be for a product or service with export potential aimed at an ASEAN and/or Australian market
  7. The idea must be based on a new, independent business at the seed, start-up, or early growth stage. This means franchised businesses, licensing agreements for distributions, real estate syndications, buy-outs or expansions of existing businesses are excluded. However, the new business may aim at organising as a franchise or provide licensee agreements as part of its export strategy
  8. The business idea can also be about a social enterprise, that is, an idea that solves a social need.
  9. The idea must not have been entered in any other competition or been awarded a Prize of any kind
  10. Business ideas that infringe copyright or intellectual capital rights will be disqualified and legal action pursued. All invited participants will certify that the business described in their plan is based on an original idea
  11. All invited participants must read and accept the terms and conditions of the competition including the requirement to maintain confidentiality of all documents and processes before submitting their business plan.

Registration to participate in the competition is now closed in all three countries. We have received Expressions of Interest from several ASEAN countries including Indonesia, Cambodia, Bhutan and Vietnam as well as Thailand and Malaysia so that the competition is truly ASEAN.
