N-vinylpyrrolidone, a ‘Less Active Monomer’, is difficult to polymerise controllably into block copolymers with ‘More Active Monomers’. This work demonstrates that N-pyridyl functionalised dithiocarbamates bearing electron donating Z substituents can easily homo- and copolymerise N-vinylpyrrolidone with good control of dispersity, providing an effective new strategy for novel polymer materials.
