What is GeoScience?

Geoscientists aim to understand how the earth works through the study of our planet earth and its many natural geological systems. Geoscientists (also known as geologists) study physical aspects of the planet (such as its composition, processes and structure) to understand events in its past, present and future.

Geosciences encapsulate many fundamental aspects such as characterising the formation and composition of the earth; the causes of mountain building or ice ages; records of life’s evolution to name a few. Geology also addresses practical problems such as how to find useful minerals critical for our day-to-day modern way of life, to how to mitigate pollution from reaching groundwater.
