Excellence in teaching and research

Our courses explore the foundations of culture and society, how humans interact with each other and the built environment, and how people communicate and express ideas.

We have a long history of teaching many of our subject areas, and as such, we are very experienced and highly regarded in Australia and overseas for many of our courses including languages, literature, history and archaeology.

Specialised groups and networks across the school encourage networking, collaboration and information sharing between our students, researchers, academics and the community. These groups and networks help ensure our school is a supportive and active research environment.

Our departments

Our teaching, research and expertise across the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences is divided into five departments. Explore the expertise, research, activity, collaborations, partnerships and subject areas offered in each of our diverse and active departments.

Research

Our research explores aspects of community, identity and cultural practice.

Our projects contribute to the knowledge, preservation and development of communities and society.

We offer public lectures and seminars to share our projects and research achievements and opportunities in higher degree research.

Events

Each year the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences hosts a number of public lectures, seminars, and community events.

Our public lectures feature renowned national and international scholars and are always open to the community to attend.

Research Seminars

Our Research Seminars are open to the public throughout the year.

The seminar series highlights new research from academics and higher research degree students from across the School.

Museum of Antiquities

The Museum of Antiquities at the University of New England is the only regional ancient history and archaeology museum in Australia.

The Museum supports the teaching and research interests of UNE staff and students, and of scholars worldwide. It also engages the broader community in the history of peoples through the ages.
