HASSE faculty heat 2019

The Three-Minute Thesis Competition (3MT) is an Australia-wide competition that celebrates the research of PhD students. Developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), 3MT cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills.

The faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education (HASSE) is inviting its PhD and MPhil students to participate in the faculty heat on 23 August 2019. However, please note only PhD students will be able to progress to the UNE final.

Participants have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis and its significance.

The faculty winner will compete against the other UNE faculty finalists for the chance to compete nationally and perhaps even in the Asia-Pacific finals. There are great prizes along the way.

By participating in the 3MT competition, you will:

  • develop your skills in academia, presentation and research communication
  • build a sense of rapport and community with your fellow HDR candidates
  • have excellent networking and professional development opportunities, especially if you are selected to represent UNE at national and international competitions
  • build your reputation in your field of research.

The competition will be judged by a panel of academics and professional staff from the faculty. The university community will be invited to view the presentations.

Prizes

There are great prizes at every stage of his competition. Winners of the HASSE faculty heat will win funding towards their research activities:

First place - $400
Runner up - $250
People’s choice - $175

(Prize money is to be used for research related expenses).
