Host Employer Information

The UNE Career Development team thank you for taking an interest in our students’ development.

Due to the competitive nature of the current employment environment, it is essential for tertiary students to gain valuable work experience that is relevant to their studies.  WorkReady is a program that can assist students to gain this experience.

The program has been developed to give students the chance to improve their employability skills through the use of a hands-on experience. These include and but are not limited to:

  • Communication – oral, written and presentation
  • Teamwork and leadership – productive relationships
  • Problem solving – conflict resolution and critical thinking
  • Self-management – personal goal setting
  • Planning and organisation – strategising and time management
  • Initiative – creativity, vision and adaptation
  • Use of technology – applying abilities and keeping up to date with changes

The Program

WorkReady

  • A WorkReady placement can be completed at any time throughout a students’ study at UNE, as long as the student is currently enrolled.
  • There is no academic assessment, time restraints or fees involved.
  • Some students undertake various placements throughout their time at UNE to gain experience in a variety of work places.
  • The placement is fully insured by the UNE.

WORK300 or WORK500

  • WORK300 or WORK500 is a structured unit that can be counted towards a student’s study. The student must have completed approximately half of their degree/postgraduate study to be eligible to enrol. Therefore, the participating student will have a theoretical background that can now be put into practice and apply this new learning to an academic assessment task. A minimum of 120 hours of recorded professional activity (work placement) must be completed and an individual academic assessment task is negotiated by the student with an academic supervisor.
  • The host employer is not part of the academic assessment.
  • The placement is fully insured by the UNE if the placement is UNPAID. If the student is being paid, the employers insurance covers the placement.
