Enterprise Bargaining at UNE – join the discussion

Anabelle Duncan

Colleagues,

As you return to the university in the new year, you will likely be aware that work has been continuing behind the scenes toward a new enterprise bargaining agreement that is more reflective both of momentous changes within the higher education sector and the needs and aspirations of the university’s staff.

The Higher Education sector in Australia has fundamentally changed since the last EB was negotiated at UNE and this needs to be reflected in our next agreement.

UNE needs to be more competitive and responsive to the changes in the sector, while at the same time recognising that our ability to attract and retain the best staff, is the single most important element in the university’s continued growth and success.

We need to work with staff to ensure we create a workplace which provides job satisfaction and security, suits their changing lifestyles and their academic strengths and importantly, provides greater opportunities for career progression.

To that end the university is developing a number of discussion papers, to better inform the debate surrounding the EB, the first of which are now on this website.

The papers contain some excellent background research to provide an overview of both the changing environment in which we operate and why the university is seeking specific changes in the workplace.

Your consideration and feedback is encouraged via the feedback section of this website and through further survey material as the debate progresses.

We intend to keep staff fully informed of negotiations on the EBA throughout the coming months, in the hope transparency will allow the staff to take ownership of this change toward a workplace that is more responsive to their needs.
