How to Use the Redirect Form

Redirects allow incoming links to an old URI (web address) to be sent to a new location. This is useful, for example, when we need established links going to our old faculties and schools to be sent to the new faculties and schools. We can update links on our own site, but not the many links on external sites, links that users have bookmarked or links that are in printed documents.

A redirect can be made using the redirect form in the UNEweb CMS.

 Open the Redirect Form.

  • Log into the UNEweb CMS at http://cms.une.edu.au.
  • Go to File-->New Form Entry in the CMS menu.
  • Choose Redirect from the 'Admin' section of forms and click 'Next'.

    Pick the Redirect Form

Complete the form.

  • Fill in the Redirect URL box with the address of the new, updated web page.

Type in the new web page location

  • Click on 'Save' at the top of the window

Generate the output file.

  • Click on 'Generate' at the top of the window to open the 'Generate Options' window and name your redirect file.
  • Use the 'Browse' button to navigate to the folder that contains the old file you are redirecting.

Browse to your old file's folder

  • Click on the name of that file. This will give your redirect the same name.
  • When asked if you want to continue, choose 'Yes'.

    Choose 'Yes' to continue

Submit the form as usual.

  • Continue through the rest of the submission process.

Test your redirect.

After you finish the submission process, go to your old page location on the web. If your redirect is working, your new page will open in its new location instead.
