Staffing Guidelines for Web Editors
Web editors need a back-up editor
Each administrative unit as well as Faculties and Schools are responsible for maintaining their portion of the University web site. While some areas have several editors, some may have only one editor. Whatever your situation, it is important that there is always an editor available for urgent updates. The Web Team does not have the staff to edit your pages while you are away.
If you are the sole editor in your area, you will need to make arrangementsĀ either for someone else in your area to take the free Content Management System (CMS) Training offered by ODU (Organisational Development Unit), or for someone from another area to be your backup while you are away. Both these solutions take time, so it is best to get them in place now.
Getting access for another staff member in your area
If you need to have someone else in your area take the training, they will need to register for the training through WebKiosk. This training is currently offered monthly. Check the ODU web site for more information about the two levels of training offered.
After training, the Director of your area or Head of School will need to request that you be given access to their Content Management System area. This request is to be sent to servicedesk@une.edu.au and should include your UNE username and the specific area of the web to which you are to be given access. Access to the CMS is a multipart process involving more than one area in Information Technology, so this process alone can take at least a week.
Arranging backup from another area
With authorisation from your Director or Head of School, a member of another administrative area or School can be your back-up editor. Again, an authorisation request is to be sent to servicedesk@une.edu.au and should include the UNE username of the person to be your back-up, and the specific area of the web to which this person will be given access. This person must have already completed the CMS training, or be willing to take the training.
