Bouldering Cave
For a long time people have been talking about extending the existing climbing wall. One idea is to add a bouldering cave. Here is a plan for a cave for everyone to have a look at. If you have any suggestions please contact the President.
The diagram on the right shows the bouldering cave climbing surfaces looking into it from the wall end. It shows the four different climbing surfaces and the balcony above the cave which allow people to view climbers on the existing wall.
The diagram on the left shows the floor plan with the relocated door and the footprint of the proposed bouldering cave. The existing squash court balcony will be extended over the cave to allow closer viewing of the existing climbing wall. The existing ceiling fan would need to be removed.
There will be 'pool lights' set flush into the cave walls to provide ambient light and a dust extraction unit to keep the air clean from climbing chalk.
Challenges: Some of the issues we need to resolve are the lack of club equipment storage space and the lack of general space for chatting, school groups etc. Perhaps this can be resolved by a stair case linking the climbing area with the viewing balcony and lockable partition separating the viewing balcony from the general squash area. The existing club cupboard could sit on the balcony and still be easily accessable. This may also remove the need to relocate the door to the side wall.
