INTRODUCTION TO THE INTERNET

A course run by the Rural Development Centre and Wendy Truelove

WELCOME!

Today you will receive an Introduction to the Internet.

In order to get started, there are two things you will need to know straight away. The very first thing is how to move up and down the screen.

To do this, move the mouse to the 'down' arrow at bottom of the bar on the right hand side of the screen and click on it.

That's it!

keep going a little bit further....

Great! You have the hang of it.

To move the page in the opposite direction, just click on the arrow at the top of the bar on the right hand side of the screen.

The next thing to learn is how to follow links.

Links are the words written in 'hypertext' and when you click on them they will take you to another site on the Internet. You can recognise them because they are usually in a different colour and when you move the mouse over them, the pointer turns into a hand.

Surfing the 'Net is just following links. So lets surf...

Move the mouse over the 'hypertext' words below and click the mouse ONCE.

  • Following Links

    Welcome back!

Notice that the link you just followed has changed colour. This just lets you know that you have followed that link. It is still possible to select that link again.

Try it again if you like.

You have just learnt the basics of moving around on the Internet using Netscape. In the session this afternoon you will learn more about the Internet and how to explore it.

    So, let's get started:
