Rural Extension Program
While the primary audiences for the Centre's work are politicians,
policy makers, and those with an interest in agricultural and rural
development, the Centre does some extension work directly with the
farming community. These activities constitute our Rural Extension
Program and change over time according to the needs in the region and
what funding we are able to obtain. Current extension activities are
described below.
The Rural Development Centre is conducting one day workshops to introduce farmers to the use of the Internet. Details of what is covered in the workshop are available here.
To help us make sure our workshops cover the sorts of things that people want to learn about, we are always grateful for any information that farmers can give us about how they are using the Internet, what would have made it easier to get started, and any problems they are having. If you would like to get in contact with us, you can email Brendan Doyle (bdoyle2@metz.une.edu.au), or ring Brendan on 067 732220. If you live in northern New South Wales and are interested in attending the next Workshop, leave your name with Brendan and we will let you know when the Workshop is on.
Our Internet Workshop includes an introduction to using the World Wide Web that was written by Wendy Truelove of the Department of Rural Extension Studies at the University of Guelph in Canada. The Department is currently gathering information on rural use of Internet right round the world. If you would like to contribute to their study, visit the Internet Use in Rural Areas site at the Department.
