Learning material packages
Learning materials for most units are supplied in an electronic format. Some units provide all learning materials online, while others use a combination of online with CD or print.
Access to your learning materials online, and information about those that may be posted to you can be found on the myStudy tab in myUNE.
The myStudy tab contains a table on the top right corner of the page. This table has a list of your current units down the side and columns that relate to particular services, such as UNEonline, Unit Materials and Materials Despatch. These columns only appear if there is an item that is currently available for that service for at least one of your units.
Dispatch of Learning Material
Any printed items, CDs or DVDs for students enrolled in on-campus units are distributed in lectures.
Any printed items, CDs or DVDs for students enrolled in off-campus units are usually posted by the Teaching and Learning Centre. Items for 1st semester are sent progressively from the second week of January, and for 2nd semester from the second week of June.
These items for off-campus units are sent by unit, which ensures that you receive these as soon as they are produced. This means that you may receive your items for different units at different times. When a package of materials has been prepared for your unit, a Materials Dispatch column will appear on the myStudy tab in myUNE. Click on the icon in this column to view the status of your package and its contents.
Accessing materials via UNEonline
UNEOnline is UNE's online teaching system. Most units have an online site that may include features such as a message board, a discussion forum, podcasts, and electronic downloads of learning materials. Some units provide all learning materials online, while others use a combination of online, CD or print. You should check the online site regularly for new materials and messages.
The online unit can be accessed from the myStudy tab in myUNE, by clicking on the icon in the column titled UNEonline. This column will only be displayed when a UNEonline site is available for at least one of your units. The online sites do not usually become available to access until the first day of teaching for the semester.
Accessing materials via myUNE
The learning materials for some units are available for download from myUNE. These are generally electronic copies of materials that are provided to you on CD or print. If your unit has this available there will be a Unit Materials column on the myStudy tab in myUNE. A CD icon in this column indicates learning materials are available. Click on the CD icon to access the materials. These online copies usually become available when the unit materials have been produced and TLC begins posting the learning materials.
Readings
Suggested readings are often included in your learning material, or they may be supplied on eReserve, the Dixson Library's online database.
eReserve is the University Library's electronic reserve, which provides access to journal articles and book chapters in PDF format. These items have been selected by the Unit Coordinator for individual units as being high-demand items. Items in eReserve are organised according to unit code. eReserve files for your unit can be accessed by clicking on the icon in the E-Documents column on myStudy or from the eReserve & exam papers link on the Dixson Library home page.
eReserve items are not available for all units. Some articles may be available before the start of semester, however new articles may be added and old articles deleted during semester.
Textbooks
Go to the Course and Unit catalogue for the online units you are studying to check the list of prescribed and recommended books. More information about textbooks can be found here.
Learning materials for early intensive schools
If you are attending an intensive school in January, February or July, your learning materials will be mailed to you prior to the school, unless the unit coordinator chooses to hand the materials out at the start of the intensive school. If you have not received the materials one week before your school commences, check the Materials Despatch information in myUNE to see if any packages are due to be sent, and check to see if there is an online copy available in the Unit Materials column, or on UNEonline. Contact the Learning Materials Officers on (02) 6773 2999 or contact us through AskUNE for assistance.
Ownership of learning materials
Most items become the property of students once they are distributed: they do not need to be returned.
If you withdraw from a unit, the return of your learning materials may reduce the need to duplicate extra copies for other students and allow these students to start study earlier. Please address any unwanted learning materials to:
The Teaching and Learning Centre
University of New England
Armidale NSW 2351
If you lose any learning materials, make arrangements to obtain replacements by contacting the Learning Materials Officers on (02) 6773 2999 or through AskUNE.
The University retains copyright of learning materials and, as a consequence, the materials are subject to normal copyright restrictions. If you wish to use learning materials for some purpose other than your own studies, you should first write to the unit coordinator to obtain permission.
Printed copies of electronic resources
Alternative formats of learning materials will not usually be provided unless you have grounds for an exemption. Exemption may be granted in the following circumstances:
- A medical condition which prevents the use of a computer,
- Remote location, or;
- Residence in a correctional facility.
If you wish to claim an exemption on any of these grounds, believe that you have other grounds for an exemption, or would like more information please contact the Student Access and Equity Officer, Student Assist, by phoning (02) 6773 2897 or sending an email to Student.Equity@une.edu.au.
Special needs
If you have a temporary or permanent impairment or illness which adversely affects your ability to study, access University resources or fully participate in University activities, you may request assistance from Student Assist or from other organisations such as Vision Australia. If this applies to you, your first point of contact should be the UNE's Disability Adviser. For more information, see the Student Disability Support website.
Help
If the learning materials are showing as being sent and you have not received them please contact TLC using the Contact Us tab in AskUNE.
