Management of your assignments (including the setting up your assignments in the e-Submission database), and the reviewing of your submissions and TurnItIn reports occurs through your site/unit ‘Profile' page.
Accessing your ‘Profile’
To access your ‘Profile' page go to the myUNE portal.
Click on the ‘Personal' tab.
The ‘Personal' tab provides access to your UNEonline sites/units and to the ‘Profile' pages for those sites/units. Unit coordinators and school administrative staff can use the ‘Profile' page to manage their UNEonline sites/units and their assignments.
* A ‘Special' site is a site which does not directly relate to a single unit of study, such as a general discussion site for all students in a discipline.
To access the ‘Profile' page, click on the unit code in the ‘Profile' column.
Your ‘Profile page’
Your ‘Profile' page contains a number of sections with information about your UNEonline site/unit and your assignments. The purpose of these sections is as follows:
Setting up your assignments
Once you click the ‘Create an assignment' button you are in the ‘e-Submission and TurnItIn' application. The first page is called ‘Assignment Management'. The left-hand navigation, as illustrated below, consists of a number of links.
Once the form is complete you can create the assignment in the system by clicking the ‘create the assignment button' at the foot of the page. Repeat as necessary for all the assignments in the unit.
The information entered here is summarised in the ‘Assignment' block in the ‘Profile' page.
This information is also summarised for the students in their e-Submission interface via myUNE.
Editing your assignments
If you have already created your assignments but need to make a change you can edit the existing information by clicking the ‘Edit' button associated with the assignment information you want to amend.
The ‘Edit an assignment' page is essentially the same web form as the ‘Create an assignment' form however the fields are pre-filled. Simply amend the field/s which require editing and resave by clicking the ‘Update assignment' button at the foot of the page.
Viewing assignment information
Once your assignments have been created they will appear in the ‘Assignments' section of the ‘Profile' page. To view student submissions and associated TurnItIn scores click on the ‘Submissions' button. This will generate a list of all e-Submitted assignments.
Once your assignments have been created they will appear in the ‘Assignments' section of the ‘Profile' page. To view student submissions and associated TurnItIn scores click on the ‘Submissions' button. This will generate a list of all e-Submitted assignments.
Downloading assignments to your computer to 'view locally'
If you elect not to have your assignments printed centrally, by default this means you have chosen to view the assignment submissions ‘locally' (ie on your personal computer). Assignments can be downloaded for individual students or for the whole group.
NOTE: Currently assignments ‘viewed locally' need to be returned to the students via individual email, or individually uploaded to e-Submission via the grades page.
Providing feedback and grades
To access the ‘Grades Management' page, go to the ‘Profile' page for your unit of study.
The Assignment Toolbar on this page has a number of links. The ‘Edit', ‘Submissions' and ‘Grade' buttons have been discussed.
You can add ‘Global feedback' (ie the same feedback to all students for whom this assignment is relevant) by clicking in the ‘Add global feedback' button. To add global feedback browse for the feedback file you have created and upload by clicking ‘Add file'.
You can also upload a .csv file of grades and feedback for all students, in order to do this click on the ‘.csv management' button. In order to upload the .csv file you will need to either download the template provided or ensure the format of your .csv file is in the correct format. That is:
| Student_Number | Full_Name | Username | Mark | Grade | Feedback |
If you download the .csv which is provided it will already be populated with the student number, full name, and username information. Once the marks, grades and/or feedback have been added to the .csv file it can be uploaded to e-Submission by browsing for the file and clicking the "Upload your Grades .csv file' button.
You can add grades and feedback to individual students by clicking on the ‘Grade' button at the end of a row corresponding to the relevant student. Marks and grades can be added to the appropriate fields on this page. Feedback can either be uploaded as a file or type/pasted into the text box. When you have added all the appropriate feedback and grade for an individual student you can release them to your students by ticking the ‘Release grade' box and clicking the ‘Save Grade and feedback' button.
All grades and feedback can be released by clicking the ‘Release Grades' button. Then click Yes or No on the next screen.
Extensions to due dates for students
Extensions on assignment due dates can be assigned to individual students or to the whole group/class. To assign an extension click the button ‘Extensions' at the top of the page.
A list of students in the unit will be returned with a date field. Extensions should be entered in this field and saved by clicking the ‘Save extension' button at the foot of the page.
Accessing Turnitin originality reports
When a file is submitted to Turnitin, the software compares the text in the submitted files with text from a range of electronic sources including online journals, online databases, the Internet and the Turnitin database. Any strings of text that occur in both the submitted document and in one or more of the electronic sources are identified by the software with a unique number and colour in what Turnitin call the ‘originality report'.
To access the Turnitin originality report go to the ‘Site profile' for the unit and scroll down to the ‘Assignment' section; click on the ‘submissions' button to see a listing of students and their assignment submissions for that unit. A student's Turnitin originality report can be accessed by clicking on the coloured square that appears next to the percentage figure for the assignment you are reviewing.
The Turnitin originalty report
The Turnitin originality report will appear as a dynamic HTML file. This report will open in a new browser window. There are three major components of the report, the header, the originally submitted file and the originality report.
The header
The header contains information such as the student number or name (depending on the information provided) of the person who submitted the original file, the date and time the file was submitted, a unique file ID, the word count of the original document, and the overall similarity index. The overall similarity index is again represented by a coloured square and a percentage figure (this is the overall percentage of text in the originally submitted document that has been found in other electronic sources). See below:
The originally submitted file
The originally submitted file appears in the left-hand side of the window. Each piece of text that has been found in another electronic source is shown in ‘bold', uniquely numbered and colour coded: one number and colour for each source. Any text that has not been matched with another source will appear as regular black text. See below.
The originality report
The originality report appears on the right-hand side of the window and is a listing of electronic sources which contain text that has been matched with text in the originally submitted file. The sources are numbered and colour coded: one number and colour for each source. The origin of each source is indicated above the URL, as is the percentage of the total submitted document that has been found in that single source. Publicly available sources such as online databases, online journals and other Internet sources can be accessed by ‘clicking' on the coloured URL in the HTML copy or by typing that link into a Web browser. Sources are listed in order of the percentage of the total submitted document that has been found from a single source.
More sources can be revealed by clicking on the ‘drop down arrow' to the right of the box saying ‘show highest matches together', these extra sources can be revealed by clicking on ‘show matches one at a time'. This reveals all sources that may have previously been hidden by another source. See below:
