Development levels

Academic Board has previously approved five online levels, which are summarised here. You must indicate the level of your unit on the online unit request form each time you seek to offer or re-offer a unit.

The levels comprise different degrees of online components, and different mixes of media (print, online, face-to-face). The levels do not distinguish between on or off campus students.

Each unit's development level should be made explicit to students, as should any change in online level. Information about online levels is used to indicate student participation and computer access requirements in the Schedules of Units and in the University Handbook, represented in the tags: OLA, OLB, OLC, OLD or OLE. If you are changing the development level for your unit you will need to complete the appropriate amendment form and have it approved before working on your unit.

However, from Semester one 2008 all students will be required to have access to an internet enabled computer, email and a CD driveā€. This development makes the lower online levels redundant, therefore until the existing levels are redefined they should be understood as being:

OLA

Access to an internet enabled computer is required.

OLB

Access to an internet enabled computer is required

OLC

Access to an internet enabled computer is required

OLD

Computer and internet access is essential to successfully complete the unit as major elements of the content and learning activities are delivered online. Some aspects of the online component may be assessable.

OLE

Computer and internet access is essential to successfully complete the unit as all content and learning and assessment activities are delivered online.

Special and resource units

Special UNEonline shells for non-standard teaching sites, such as postgraduate discussion sites that apply to several units, can be created. Make applications for such sites directly to the Leader, Learning Resources Unit (do not use the online form)
