3. Evidence of probation and promotion practices and policies which include effectiveness as a teacher.

Probation and promotion practices and policies include a requirement to demonstrate effectiveness as a teacher.

Student evaluation of units (subjects) is undertaken on a systematic basis with every unit evaluated at least once every three years. Student evaluation of teaching is undertaken at the request of the teacher. Both inform probation and promotion decisions.

Probation policy for academic staff is at:
http://www.une.edu.au/....../hr/probationacademic.pdf Clause 10.04.11 specifies the requirement to demonstrate competence as a teacher. This is expanded in the Guidelines for Supervisors - Preparing a Probation Report, which require ‘an assessment of the staff member’s teaching effectiveness, including evidence used to make this assessment, which must include results of evaluations by students conducted by the Teaching and Learning Centre and may include evaluations by colleagues and other evidence’. See: http://www.une.edu.au/....../hr/probationacadguidelines.pdf

Academic Staff Promotion Policy is at: http://www.une.edu.au/....../hr/promotionacad.pdf Clauses 14.01.09-14.01.10 specify the evidence required to demonstrate effectiveness as a teacher, including results of student evaluations.

Application for Promotion – Academic Staff is at: http://www.une.edu.au/....../hr/promapplacadform.doc specifies on the Contents page and in Section 2.3 the requirement for applicants to present evidence from student evaluations.

Academic Promotion Guidelines – Applicants at: http://www.une.edu.au/....../hr/promacadguidelines.pdf specifies in Section 2.3 that Promotions Committees will consider results of student evaluations in making their decisions.
