Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning

OLT Citations recognise and reward the diverse contribution that individuals and teams make to the quality of student learning.  In 2013 the OLT offers up to 160 Citations valued at $10,000 each.

Nomination for the Citations program is open to academic, general and sessional staff, and institutional associates. Citations are awarded to those who have made significant contributions to student learning in a specific area of responsibility over a sustained period of time. Citations reflect the diversity of ways in which individuals and teams contribute to learning and teaching in Higher Education.

UNE is able to submit up to 8 nominations for individuals and teams.

Expressions of interest must be submitted to UNE’s Institutional Contact Officer (olt-admin@une.edu.au) by 5pm 8 February 2013

Potential areas of contribution

Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning provide an opportunity for distinctive institutional missions, values and priorities in learning and teaching to be recognised. Citations are awarded for a wide range of contributions to student learning, where this contribution is recognised for achievements within the nominating institution. Other than Early Career, there are no specific categories for Citations. Citations are awarded for both direct and indirect contributions.

UNE Application Procedure - 2013

UNE is able to nominate up to eight individuals and teams for OLT Citations in 2013. The process for selecting the nominees  and submitting nominations is outlined below:

  1. Applicants should submit an Expression of Interest to UNE's Institutional Contact Officer by email to olt-admin@une.edu.au. Closing date for submissions of EOI's is 5pm Friday 8 February, 2013.
  2. EOI's are assessed by UNE's OLT Grants and Awards Committee ('the Committee') to determine which applications will be supported for further development. The Committee will meet before 18 February, 2013. Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be provided with written feedback from the Committee.
  3. Successful applicants will be able to develop the EOI into a full application with support from UNE's Institutional Contact Officer (ICO). Individual consultations will be available, as well as mentoring from previous citation winners.  PLEASE NOTE: success at the EOI stage does not imply that an application will receive institutional endorsement for submission to the OLT. The decision to provide institutional endorsement to an application is at the sole discretion of the Vice-Chancellor (or his delegate) based on advice from the Committee. This advice is based on the extent to which the Committee believes the written application presented has successfully addressed the selection criteria and demonstrates an Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning.
  4. Complete applications must be submitted by 5pm Friday 5 April, 2013 to olt-admin@une.edu.au
  5. The Committee will meet before 15 April, 2013 and further feedback will be provided to applicants. Applicants will then have the opportunity to incorprate the Committee feedback and refine their application. PLEASE NOTE: if feedback is provided by the Committee but not incorporated into the Final application submitted, it is unlikely that the Final application will be recommended for institutional endorsement for submisison to the OLT.
  6. FINAL APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO olt-admin@une.edu.au BY 5PM 24 APRIL, 2013.
  7. The Committee will meet by 3 May, 2013. At this meeting the Committee will determine which applications will receive endorsement from UNE. Successful applications will be given an institutional ranking. The ranking will be determined by assessing the extent to which each nominee's claims for contribution to student learning are supported by the written evidence provided (including references). The institutional ranking will be provided to the OLT but will otherwise remain confidential. Nominees will not be provided with the rankings. Unsuccessful applicants will be provided with further feedback, but there will not be an opportunity to re-submit an unsuccessful application in 2013.
  8. UNE's Institutional Contact Officer will complete the submission of all nominations to the Office for Learning and Teaching by 5pm 9 May 2013.
