ASOhelp
ASOhelp is the Academic Skills Office help hotline. It directs you to all of the services available to students who need assistance. You can go directly to our academic skills resources, join our discussion board and make your appointments online with ASO lecturers. Just click on our ASOhelp logo:
Consultations for all students
Consultations with ASO lecturers are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL.
No matter whether you have a quick query or need a half hour consultation, are on-campus or off-campus, we are here to support your learning. In an individual half hour appointment, we can help you assess your current strengths and weaknesses to get you started on the road to success with your studies. In these consultations, we can give you guidance on any academic skills related issue. By far the most frequent request is for help with academic writing in the context of specific assignments. If you would like to improve your study skills or the writing process (e.g. analysing the question, planning and structuring the answer, referencing, academic style and so on), we can assist you. Please note that we do not proofread and correct your essay for you.
Consultations may be face-to-face or from a distance via phone, email or videoconference link. Use ASOhelp to book your consultations.(NOTE: First year internal students should contact the First Year Advisors).
You can now talk to one of the ASO lecturers by videoconferencing!
For a video conference consultation, make an appointment as above, and then dial 129.180.10.109 at the appointed time. (NOTE: You will need a webcam and Microsoft Net Meeting.)
Email consultations
If you choose to use email consultations from the ASOhelp menu. Please note:
- Responses to your requests for assistance from asohelp may take up to FIVE working days, but we aim to respond as soon as possible.
- The ASO lecturers do not proofread and correct your essays for you, but we will give you advice about identified areas of difficulty.
- You may have ONE consultation per assignment.
- You must use your UNE email address when emailing ASOhelp.
ASO discussion forum
If you are experiencing a problem with your study skills that you would like to discuss, you can access the ASO lecturers online through our ASO Discussion Forum from the ASOhelp menu. The ASO lecturers will assist you with your particular problem, but you will NOT be able to send assignments for review, editing or proofreading. This example of an online study skills discussion demonstrates how helpful this service may be to you.
The discussions area is a public space where students may talk with ASO lecturers and with fellow students. We conduct these sessions on the discussions area so that ALL students can benefit from the interaction with the ASO lecturers. Even if you don't pose a question or join in the discussion, you may find some answers to your problems by viewing the discussions.
You may write in your request to the ASO Discussions area at any time. The ASO lecturers will respond to your queries daily.
Please be reminded that UNE has a set of standards, Discussion rules and ethics, which apply to all online discussions. There is a help feature available within the Discussions area menu if you require guidance with its functions.
