ASOhelp
ASOhelp is the Academic Skills Office help hotline. It directs you to all of the services available to students who need assistance. You can go directly to our academic skills resources, factsheets or sign up for a workshop.
ASO Bookings
Bookings are available for internal students 2nd year or above, all external students and postgraduate students. Book online for an individual or group consultation with one of the Academic Skills Office lecturers.
Email: asohelp@une.edu.au
Phone: (02) 6773 3600
Email consultations
You can email the ASO at asohelp@une.edu.au. If you choose to use email consultations, please note:
- Responses to your requests for assistance from asohelp may take up to FIVE working days, but we aim to respond as soon as possible.
- Please do not send in your assignments for correction. The ASO lecturers do not proofread and correct your assignments for you, but we will give you advice about identified areas of difficulty.
- You must use your UNE email address when emailing ASOhelp.
Maths and stats for undergraduate students
ASO offers support in basic maths and stats for undergraduate students. If you are a non-maths student (ie not actually studying maths and stats as subjects) and are finding the maths/stats components of your course a bit tricky, make an appointment (face-to-face if on-campus or via phone, email if off-campus) with Martin Collins.
Email: asohelp@une.edu.au
Phone: 02 6773 3600
International students
International students may make appointments for group or individual consultations about their university study with specialised ESL lecturers at the Academic Skills Office.
Email: asohelp@une.edu.au
Phone: 02 6773 3600
In addition, students may contact UNE International on 02 6773 3192 to find out about further English training offered by the English Language Centre.
First year students who are on campus

PASS Program
Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) will be available for CHEM110 and MATH120 in Semester 1, 2011 and CHEM120 and STAT100 in Semester 2, 2011. These regular study sessions are led by a PASS leader who is a senior student in that subject. If you want to be part of this highly successful program, email Julie Godwin.
Postgraduate students
If your postgraduate study involves preparing a thesis or dissertation, the following assistance is available:
- Thesis proofreading - The ASO maintains a list of qualified, experienced proofreaders. To ensure that your thesis is of the highest possible standard with impeccable grammar and consistent formatting, consider employing a proofreader. For information about contact details and costs call 02 6773 3600. Theses presented for proofreading must be your best draft and be whole, not presented chapter by chapter. You may be eligible for funding support for thesis proofreading. Check with your Faculty office.
The following blog sites are for doctoral students, supervisors and anyone interested in doctoral education. They provide a forum for people who are interested in writing for postgraduate research to come together to share ideas, information and resources and ask questions about the research and writing process.
