Editing tips

If you use the following editing techniques you will greatly enhance the quality of your work.

1. Eliminate wordiness and use appropriate language

Take out any unnecessary or repeated words or phrases; substitute simpler words for complex ones. You should also remove informal words and expressions and substitute more academically acceptable ones.

2. Insert evidence and examples

Make sure everything is supported by either references to the ideas of others, or by concrete examples.

3. Add connectives and signposts

Use words such as furthermore, consequently, however, on the one hand ... and on the other, thus (see Paragraphs). These words and phrases help your points flow logically.
