Editing your work demands thoughtful revision. It is an important and enjoyable part of assignment writing. The hard work is done, and now you have the chance to clarify and refine your work so as to impress your marker.

Never edit only at the computer.

Print out.

This will enable you to see the ‘big picture’.

Editing includes the following processes:

  • rewriting sentences or whole paragraphs to ensure clarity

  • deleting weak points and adding new, better ones

  • moving sentences or paragraphs around to improve organisation

  • adding connectives to improve logical flow and emphasise the relationships between your ideas.

Once you have made these corrections to your printed draft, you can then carefully change them at the computer.
