Workshops, Seminars & Professional Development

workshops

The Academic Development Unit offers a broad array of professional development workshops, seminars and hands-on tutorials on many aspects of tertiary teaching and learning. Some elements of the academic professional development program are offered periodically, while we also offer an occasional series of workshops and one-off seminars and provide consultations to individuals and groups on request. Among the programs currently offered are:

Workshops, seminars and tutorials
The sessions in these programs address a variety of teaching and learning topics and are geared to the needs of both staff new to teaching at UNE and more experienced staff who wish to refresh their thinking and practice. To register for workshops click here.

Teaching Flexibly at UNE
Teaching Flexibly is a compulsory program for academic staff new to UNE. It’s designed to introduce staff to both online teaching methods and the learner context of UNE – a major distance/online education provider and a small, rural university with a unique demographic. While particularly useful for those who have previously taught in largely face to face contexts and those in their first teaching position, staff with previous online teaching experience will still find value in the program as a way to expand your teaching strategies and become familiar with UNE’s online environment. The program is a multi-strand one that can be designed flexibly to suit individual needs and interests. To register for Teaching Flexibly click here. OLT support
This program offers a range of workshops for staff intending to apply for an OLT Award for University Teaching or an OLT grant. Teaching awards have quite broad criteria and apply to staff in a wide range of situations (including general staff), not only those teaching students directly. The workshops will also benefit staff intending to apply for other types of teaching awards or preparing a teaching portfolio for promotion. The OLT has specific requirements for grants applications that the workshops will guide you in addressing. Both teaching awards and grants take a significant amount of time to prepare and the workshops will help to ensure your time is effectively used. The workshops are subdivided into those building up to a formal EOI and a second stage for the writing process.

Other support
In addition to scheduled sessions, TLC provides support that is tailored to specific individual or group needs, whether at the discipline, School or Faculty level. Staff wishing to organize a one-to-one consultation, a customized workshop or a facilitated workshop session should contact the Academic Development Coordinator, Melanie Fleming.
