Wimba Create

Wimba Create is a software package used to convert Microsoft Word files into HTML. UNE has a campus license for Wimba Create (formerly known as Course Genie), and you can download a copy from here. If you are presented with a Security Warning message stating the Secure Connection Failed, please select the "Or you can add an exception" link in the bottom of the warning message and follow the prompts. You will be prompted for a UNE username and password in order to access the file you need to download. If you are having problems accessing this file, please contact the IT helpdesk.

Wimba Create requires:

  • Windows NT4 (SP6), 2000, XP or Vista
  • Microsoft Word 2000, XP, 2003 or 2007

Installing the ‘Campus Edition’ of Wimba Create

  • Open the Wimba Create zip folder (called wimbaCreate.zip) and unzip it to a temporary directory.
  • Run setup.exe and follow the on-screen instructions. The campus version will not function until you have installed the license.
  • To install the license, move the file key.enc (found in the zip folder you used to download WimbaCreate) into C:\Programfiles\CourseGenie. This allows WimbaCreate to ‘see’ the license file.
  • If prompted, allow Macros to be enabled for Wimba Create.

Installing templates containing Wimba styles

  • See wimba_create_tlc.pdf inside the zip folder you have downloaded for full instructions.
  • Please note the template files can be found in the folder "wimba_templates", located in the zip file you have downloaded.

Installing University Colour Schemes

There are five specific colour schemes relating to the University of New England, which have been included in the folder called ‘wimba schemes’. To use these, open the folder and select all, then move them into the following location: ‘C:\Programfiles\courseGenie\resources\en.lproj\schemes’.

Initial use of Wimba Create

  • Open Word document to be converted to HTML.
  • Go to Add-Ins tab.
  • Click on Wimba Create dropdown arrow and select Start Wimba Create.
  • All further instructions are contained within the wimba_create_tlc.pdf file.
