Learn more about TIGB
What is our role?
The Institute for Genetics and Bioinformatics (TIGB) is established within the University of New England based on a partnership model with internal and external partners based in the Armidale area. The Armidale region is internationally acknowledged for its strength in genetics research and teaching.
TIGB is associated with the Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit (AGBU), which is internationally renowned for its development and delivery of tools for genetic improvement of livestock. The Institute for Genetics and Bioinformatics works to grow the business of its partners in R&D, training and capacity development, and delivery of genetic solutions to society and industry.
TIGB is part of the UNE strategy of achieving regional and global impact. The majority of TIGB activities are in applications of genetics to understand and provide solutions to problems in agriculture and the environment.

Training
The University of New England offers general and specialised undergraduate and graduate training in genetics and bioinformatics. Undergraduate training is offered within the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Computing Science, Bachelor of Rural Science and Bachelor of Natural Resource Management degrees.
We also offer MSc and graduate diplomas in genetics and have a very active PhD training program. TIGB partners external to UNE have adjunct appointments within UNE allowing them to directly supervise students enrolled in UNE postgraduate degrees.
We also offer summer courses on specialised topics aimed at advanced undergraduates, postgraduates and industry.
