Study French at UNE

Introduction

This site provides you with information regarding the French programmes offered at UNE, including a description of individual units, of opportunities to study in France or Canada and of career prospects. Offering units in language, literature and cultural studies, the French discipline invites you to enhance your knowledge of this rich heritage.

Why Study French at UNE?

The School is the only one in Australia to offer a full programme of French externally (by distance education) as well as internally, from beginners; level to PhD. We offer units in language, literature and cultural studies. Most units are normally available in both distance and on campus mode, and undergraduate units are enhanced by an interactive online component.  The pronunciation and phonetics unit, FREN203 (next offered in 2011) and the annual units FGIR 301 and 401 (see below), are available in distance mode only.  External students follow the same courses as internal ones, submit the same assignments and sit the same tests and examinations.

Teaching and administrative staff are highly experienced in dealing with both categories of student, and we welcome all enquiries. French may also be studied at Honours level, one year full-time or two years part-time. Supervision is also available for MA (Hons) and PhD candidates.

UNE has exchange agreements with universities in Angers (France), Saint-Etienne (France) and Quebec City (Canada) for in-country study which can be credited to UNE degrees. The schemes are open to BA and BLang students who spend one or two semesters at these universities. UNE also has an exchange agreement with a graduate business school in Chambéry, France for Bachelor of Language and International Business candidates.
