Teach English literature and new literacies
As a student teacher of English Literature and New Literacies Education, you will be offered a traditional and contemporary cultural perspective in teaching English literature. By studying with us, you will learn how to teach using a range of formats including text, graphics, and multimedia.You will recognise the significance of new technologies in language and literacies education and you’ll develop technology-facilitated strategies for your curriculum. Our course is specific to learning new literacies in primary, secondary and tertiary education.
TESOL ...Teaching English to speakers of other languages
When you study at UNE to become a teacher of English as a second language, you will acquire an understanding of the way language and culture interacts while considering the various roles and tensions that English now faces in the world as a global language.
The course requires you to complete sixty (60) hours of ESL (English as a second language) professional experience (practice teaching) and reach a satisfactory standard of proficiency.
Units of study
English Education units of study (EDEE and EDLA prefixes) are offered in undergraduate and postgraduate awards.

Postgraduate study in English Literacies and Language Education and TESOL provides you the opportunity to upgrade your teaching skills and professional qualifications in regard to knowledge about language, literature, grammar and multimodal communication. The course affords opportunities to participate in local, national and international research networks to enhance reflective and enquiry-oriented classroom practice in language and literacy education.
