Econometrics
Assoc. Prof. Jack Sinden - Coordinator of Master of Economics / Master of Economic Studies

Introduction
Econometrics is concerned with the theory and application of statistical methodology in economics. UNE offers units in applied econometrics. If economics is to give advice to politicians and businessmen, it needs to use quantitative work to justify and support its arguments. Units in econometrics and quantitative methods provide the necessary base for such quantitative work. The first year units are business statistics units designed to provide a basic grounding in statistical inference, in the context of economic and business applications. Note: QM (Quantative Methods) units are offered by the Discipline of Econometrics.
Why Study Econometrics at UNE
Econometrics provides a set of analytical tools that are useful to business and commerce students as well as economics students. Econometrics is an important area of study because it strives to test economic theory by examining empirical evidence. Also, econometric methods are used to analyse practical business and planning problems, ranging from federal government taxation plans to small business sales campaigns. Studying econometrics fills a gap between being "a student" and being "a practitioner". Because quantitative analytical skills are highly valued in the workplace, inclusion of units in econometric or quantitative methods in a business, commerce or economics degree will improve a student’s job prospects.
