Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education)

Candidates must complete all of the following core units:

EDEC 310 - Professionals in Early Childhood Education
Note: EDEC 310 is the introductory, pre-requisite unit of study.

EDEC 324 - Early Education Leadership Theory and Practice
EDEC 340 - Young Children Developing and Learning
EDEC 344 - Families and Early Childhood Education

EDEC 345 - Learning in Play Environments
EDEC 388 - Inclusive Early Childhood Education
EDEC 391 - Early Education Philosophy and Practice

Candidates must complete one of the following elective units:

EDEC 416 - Young Children Discovering Multiliteracies
EDEC 421 - Young Children and the Creative Arts
EDEC 424 - Early Education Leadership: People

EDEC 427 - Young Children Exploring their World
EDEC 488 - Young Children with Exceptional Development

Note: EDEC 424 may be taken as an elective only by negotiation with the Unit Coordinator.

Bachelor of Teaching (sequence of unit offerings)
Candidates for the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) will complete eight units via part-time off-campus study while continuing to work in a variety of early childhood settings. The flexibility of this program allows students to select one or two units per semester over a period of two to four years.

However, as the first unit, EDEC 310, is a pre-requisite unit, you must undertake only this unit in your first semester. From then on the length of study time varies with the number of units undertaken each semester. The option of studying full-time after successfully completing EDEC 310 may be negotiated with the Course Coordinator.

**Your choice of elective in your BTeach(ECE) may affect future career options. If you plan to teach in the early years of school in NSW and are following the Primary Pathway into the BEd(ECE) it is recommended that you elect to enrol in one of the following:

EDEC 421      Young Children and the Creative Arts
EDEC 424      Early Childhood Leadership: People (negotiate with Unit Coordinator)
EDEC 427      Young Children Exploring their World
EDEC 488      Young Children with Exceptional Development (negotiate with Unit Coordinator)

# This indicates a unit with a five day professional experience session plus two days orientation.

(Note: EDUC 496 must be negotiated with the Course Coordinator and a lecturer from the Early Childhood Education Program.)

Note: Three units must be selected from the elective Group 5B. An elective undertaken in the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) cannot be chosen again for the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education).
