Overview of the Bachelor of Computer Science Gaming and Networks Combined Major

This is a combined major includes core units on introductory programming, basic concepts of computer science and techniques for software development. Particular subjects covered within the major include parallel and distributed computing, web programming, computer networks, multimedia, game programming and programming languages for artificial intelligence. This major is designed for students who have an interest in combining studies in network technology with game programming design and implementation.

Duration and Prerequisites

This is a three year full-time degree. Assumed knowledge is Mathematics at NSW HSC level, or equivalent. For students without the recommended background knowledge, UNE offers a Foundation unit in Mathematics. Students are also able to articulate into the Bachelor of Computer Science on completion of the NSW TAFE Diploma in Information Technology or equivalent which counts for three semesters of full-time study.

The computing courses at UNE provide a sound foundation which enables an individual to easily and quickly adapt to the constant changes in the IT landscape. The lecturers are highly qualified professionals who are active computer science researchers in areas such as Web Engineering and Image Processing. The Bachelor of Computer Science has been granted Level A accreditation by the Computer Society of Australia. Commencement is possible in either first or second semester. Study can be taken either full-time or part-time and either on campus or fully online.
