About IMSA

The University of New England International Muslim Student Association (UNE–IMSA) is an organisation of international Muslim students. UNE–IMSA was formed in May 1978 and run mainly by the international Muslim students of UNE.

Members

All international Muslim students officially enrolled at the University of New England are general members of the UNE–IMSA. All the other Muslim students, Muslim academic staff and local Muslim residence are a associate members.

 

Our Objectives

The objectives of the UNE–IMSA are to:

  • Promote and strength the silaturahmi (goodwill) among the Muslim students within the university and the community
  • Facilitate the students to fulfil their basic duties as Muslims
  • Encourage and develop the relationship of the Muslim students with Muslim community as well as the university community
  • Encourage, develop cooperate into the activities of UNE-Mosque Management Association (UMMA)
  • Provide information resources and referral assistance
  • Support and encourage university activities as required

Activities

The main activities involve:

  • To organise prayers, especially Friday prayer and special prayer (Tarawih) during Ramadan
  • To supply halal meat
  • To collect alm and shodaqoh (donation) to be distributed among the disadvantaged people
  • To celebrate Islamic festivals such as Eid–ul–Fitr and Eid–ul–Adha and other Muslim festivals

In addition, the UNE–IMSA organises a range of social and educational activities:

  • To offer Arabic language and religious classes for children
  • To organise social gathering on different occasions, such as welcoming and farewell parties, Iftar parties and birthday parties
 

Location
