Steps to .... Checking your Progression
To assist students in managing their enrolment, UNE has an online facility whereby you can check if the units you are currently enrolled in or have completed, count towards your course requirements.
You will need to use the rules for your course as presented in the Course and Unit Catalogue to help you with interpreting the online rules as you will need to cross-reference between the two as to groupings of units (such as core units or elective units), options within majors, restrictions as to the number of units you can study at a certain level, etc.
Hint: New students to UNE do not get access to the full range of facilities in myUNE until after they have accepted their offer and enrolled in units. It may take approximately 1 hour from when you have enrolled online until when you get full access to myUNE. If you have just enrolled online, you might like to log out, wait approximately 1 hour, and then log back in to check your progression.
The 6 steps to checking your progression online are:
Step 1 Log in to myUNE.
Under the myEnrol Tab click on Course Details.
Here you may need to choose your course, and once you have, click on Progression.
Step 2 Progression Snapshot
This is a summary of the overall credit points for your course as at today’s date together with the credit points you have received because you have either passed units or been granted advanced standing.
It also shows the number of credit points in which you are currently enrolled, or enrolled for a future teaching period.
Step 3 Course Completion
Next to Course Completion click on the code for your course. This next screen may take a few moments to open. If Course Completion Requirements exist for your course, they will display here.
Not all course rules are presented online this way.
Step 4 Checking against Course Rules
This is where it is useful to have access to the rules for your course as presented in the Course and Unit Catalogue as you will find that the online rules follow a similar format.
Where online rules have been provided in detail for a course, you may see categories like:
· Total number of credit points, with any maximum or minimum number of credit points you can study at certain levels of units if these are specified for your course;
· Any groupings of units you must complete – these might for example represent the core units you have to complete or groupings of specified elective units out of which you might need to complete a certain number of credit points;
· Any unit sets you must complete – a unit set is defined as a grouping of units which can be a group of core units or a group of elective units. A unit set can also represent a Major or even a group of majors if in your course you can do a certain number of credit points from across a range of majors.
Take time to compare how the online rules represent the various different components of your course. You need to be sure that you can see where the units you have enrolled in count towards your course. If they don’t, you may have enrolled in inappropriate units and it is your responsibility to correct this.
Hint: Some courses require students to complete a range of elective units from a specified set of units whilst other courses allow students to undertake elective units from across the University. For this latter group, the full range of units offered by the University cannot be defined – if you are enrolled in a course that allows this the online rules might only define elements like core units and/or majors.
Step 5 Checking progress towards a Major
If your course is one which requires you to complete one or more majors – and you have enrolled in your major(s) – you can also check your progression in that major.
From the Progression Snapshot summary, click on Unit Sets Completion. If unit sets exist for your course, the various elements of the unit set will be displayed here. Again carefully check if what you thought you were studying towards a major is shown here.
Step 6 Troubleshooting if you find a problem
Have you enrolled in the units you selected when you planned your enrolment?
Re-check the course rules, will the units you have enrolled in definitely count towards completing your course?
If your course has majors, have you enrolled in a major(s)? If you haven’t, then the online rules cannot check your completion of a major.
If you believe there is a problem with your enrolment, Course Advising is available from Student Central staff. Contact us via web email http://www.une.edu.au/contact-us or by phoning 02 6773 4444.
