Vernon Crew’s professional background is one of substantial experience in schools and universities in a wide variety of societal and cultural contexts.  He has been involved in language learning and teacher education for more years than he cares to remember and has researched extensively in pedagogical and socio-psychological aspects of language.  He is particularly intrigued by the effects of culture, attitude and motivation on language and content learning and this has driven his long-term interest in international education, its complexities, benefits and problems. His current post as Director, English Language and International Services at the University of New England enables him to work with all aspects of international education.

Areas of Academic Interest

Socio-psycho linguistics – culture, attitude, personality and motivation in language learning; second language acquisition and pedagogy; design, monitoring and effectiveness of short-term overseas language immersion programmes.
