Research interests
Steve's research interests primarily focus on spatial and temporal variation in marine and estuarine benthic communities, and in particular on human impacts. A primary thrust of his research to date has been on quantifying the impacts of sewage outfalls on marine and estuarine communities. He also has an active research programme which focuses on the ecology of subantarctic benthic communities and how these respond to different types of natural and human-induced disturbance. In addition to studies of human impact, Steve has a number of current research projects within the Solitary Islands Marine Park which focus on determining patterns of community structure, and spatial and temporal variation in the coral communities which form the southernmost, diverse coral assemblages on the east coast of Australia.
