Saroja Krishnaswamy is a psychiatrist appointed as an Associate Professor in the School of Rural Medicine and as the Clinical Director of Mental Health Services for Tablelands and Mehi McIntyre.

Affiliations

Associate Professor Krishnaswamy is affiliated with the University of Newcastle as a Conjoint Associate Professor, and is a member of many professional organisations including the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry, the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK), Biological Psychiatry Australia and is the President of the Malaysian Association of Research in Psychiatry.

Areas of Teaching

Her teaching responsibilities include teaching psychiatry to medical students in Years 2, 4 and 5.

Research interests

Her research interests are around epidemiology of mental illness and she has published widely in this field while working as the Professor of Psychiatry at the National University of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur and at the Penang Medical College (National University of Ireland) for 15 years prior to resettling in Australia. Her current interests are using telepsychiatry to improve mental health outcomes in the country.
