Ruth Machalias has been employed at UNE since 1984, first as an academic until 2001, for the most part in the Division of Modern Greek in the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, where her research and teaching interests included the use of language games, language learning strategies for non-native speakers and the work of the Greek surrealist poet Odysseus Elytis. She has also lectured in applied linguistics and language teaching methodology, and has received a Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. From 2006 she has worked in administrative positions at UNE, including the Student Centre and the School of Arts since 2009, where she provides strategic academic planning, policy and procedural advice to staff, and admission and course progression advice to prospective and current students.
