After completing a PhD in 1991, Robert joined the staff of the Department of Geography and Planning in July 1993 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in January 1996, and Associate Professor in 2006..

Research interests
My main research interests are in Holocene marine environments, Internet traffic, the geography of retailing and the development of applied mathematical geography. He is also interested in coastal geomorphology.
Consultancy
I have undertaken a range of consultancies on the impact of retail development and trading hours on local communities.
