Paul has over 20 years experience in local government town planning. He worked at a variety of Councils in the Sydney metropolitan area, the Sydney urban / rural fringe and in rural New South Wales. Whilst having broad experience in all aspects of planning at the local / regional level, Paul’s main area of expertise is in development planning. His last local government position was as Director – Planning and Environmental Services with Bellingen Shire Council.
In 2000 Paul joined the staff of UNE as the Manager – Research Services. This role meant significant involvement with postgraduate research students, postgraduate scholarships, research grants and contracts and research ethics. During this time Paul maintained an active involvement with town planning activities.
In February 2005 Paul joined the staff of Human and Environmental Studies. To date he has largely focussed on the areas of Development Control Planning, Transport Planning and the history and evolution of urban and regional planning.
Paul is extremely familiar with the rigours and demands of external studies, having completed both his undergraduate degrees, including Honours in the second degree, as an external / part-time student. The topic of the Honours degree was “Improving Agricultural Productivity from Small Rural Properties”. Paul is extending this topic into an examination of the effects of continued displacement of agricultural activities at the peri-urban interface as part of a PhD. In parallel with this Paul is currently undertaking a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education.
