Research interests

My longterm research deals with population studies of Mendelian traits in humans, currently brachydactyly in various families in Australia. As the majority of my time is involved with teaching I am interested in several aspects of higher education including how 1st year students adapt to university life and how university can help them. Another aspect is the use of practical tools in genetics. Some time is also spent in looking at education of high school biology teachers to help them keep up to date with moves in genetics education.

Teaching Interests

My teaching is into several undergraduate genetics units as well as assisting in 1st year Statistics taught by the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. A unit for the Masters in Science Education offered by a consortium of Australian Universities is presented in Second Semester. Nearly all of these units are available both in on-campus (internal - I) and off-campus (external - E) modes. For all external units WebCt pages are available.
