Research interests
Keith has widely ranging interests in agro-ecology, based on 30 years research at the Pastoral Research Laboratory, CSIRO (Armidale), which included an active participation in the International Biological Program (Grassland Biome, 1968-80). His current research (with Dr. Kathy King) is directed at syntheses of soil food webs for temperate grasslands, both native and sown. These syntheses quantify the biological inter-relationships, which govern carbon and nitrogen transactions and help to clarify the currently vague concept of soil biological health. Other research is focused on the impact of management practices on the stability of grazing ecosystems (plant-animal) and on aspects of soil dysfunction, based on data from long term grazing experiments. Keith is also involved in extending post-graduate competencies in biological simulation modeling and he strongly supports the development of cross-disciplinary research on sustainable whole-farm systems.
