James White is a senior educator with the NSW Department of Education and Communities. He is currently the Regional Director for the New England Region and was previously a School Education Director. Mr White's career includes extensive work on leadership development, curriculum innovation and school improvement. This has been enhanced through his experience as a Technology and Applied Science Consultant, a Regional Training and Development/Curriculum Coordinator and through his experience as principal of Manilla Central School, Guyra Central School and Oxley High School. In his earlier career, Mr White taught science, agriculture and design and technology. He was later responsible for part of the state-wide implementation of the Design and Technology Training Agents program across New England and he also coordinated the Team Leadership Course.
On top of his region-wide responsibilities, Mr White has a significant role in a diverse range of state-wide programs and initiatives, including Asset Management, Course Registration for the Institute of Teachers, developing communication strategies, rural education, and leadership and management. At a regional level, Mr White has a priority for leadership development, curriculum implementation and improving outcomes for Aboriginal students. His current research involves the study of the school leader in developing a positive school image.
Mr White’s academic background includes a Master Degree in Education (University of New England), Post Graduate Diploma in Statistics and Quality Management (University of Newcastle), Bachelor of Arts (University of New England) and a Diploma of Teaching in Agriculture/Science - (also recipient of the Clarke Memorial Prize for Most Outstanding Student).
Mr White's exceptional work in education has been recognised with the Director-General's Award for Excellent Service to Public Education in 2008 and his appointment as Fellow of the Australian College of Educational Leaders in 2010.
Mr White is a regular participant in the City 2 Surf and other middle distance events. In 2000 he received an Australian Sports Medal for his services to sport.
