Research interests
I have a rural science background and co-ordinate the applied cotton production course for the Australian Cotton CRC within the School of Rural Science and Agriculture. My research interests more formally fall under the category of applied entomology with recent experience including: integrated pest management in cotton (NSW), classical biological control of aquatic weeds (Queensland and in PNG & South Africa), and co-managing a mass rearing facility for the sterile release method of controlling Screw-worm flies (Malaysia). Recently he has attracted consultancies for the University of New England on the environmental assessment of Genetically Modified (GM) crops.
Other Interests:
I was previously employed by CSIRO entomology (Brisbane and Malaysia) and has strong connections with CSIRO scientists in the fields of risk assessment, invasive weeds, environment and entomology. Two recent consultancies have used these linkages. A scopeing study on biotechnology in Australia for the Department of Land and Water Conservation, and another on the environmental assessment of GM canola for the Australian Department of Environment and Heritage (ie. Environment Australia EA).
